To LFA Parents, Faculty, Staff and Friends:
The faculty and staff, parents and students of the Lycée Franco-Américain International School (LFA) and our sister school, the International School of Broward (ISB), have been personally touched by the recent earthquake in Haiti. Over 50% of our student population has connections to people in Haiti.
We have put together a preliminary plan to provide assistance. We have a commitment from the founder of H.E.A.T. (Health, Education, Agriculture and Technology project) whose headquarters are located in Los Angeles, California, to loan us a parcel of 50 acres of land. This land is located in the Plateau Central near Thomonde (http://www.fallingrain.com/world/HA/9/Thoman.html) about 2-3 hours from Port-au-Prince and is equipped with a river to supply a source of water where a camp can be set up to provide temporary housing. We would like to concentrate our efforts in the Carrefour area, where the inhabitants are often overlooked during relief efforts.
Several other organizations have expressed strong interest in working with us on this project. We have submitted our plans to AFL-CIO, Cross International School, Charter Schools, and Aggreko. We are forming a group of 20 volunteers (doctors, nurses, construction workers, teachers, handymen, counselors, etc.) who will go there to set up the tents for each family to provide shelter, food, and medical assistance. The volunteers will travel to the Dominican Republic where the Mayor of Thomonde, Mr. Delva, agreed to send buses to pick up the volunteers and supplies and to provide logistical support and security. Once on site, one group will set up the tents and the other group will use the buses provided by the Mayor of Thomonde to pick up families and settle them on the site. Most of the emergency food and medical supplies will be purchased in the Dominican Republic. Our contact in the Dominican Republic will be ordering supplies ready to be transported upon our arrival. In the United States, we will continue to request and collect donations of supplies that will be shipped at a later time to the Dominican Republic and then to Haiti once the ports are open. The Port of Miami has offered to ship the supplies for us free of charge.
If you would like to involved in this project, you can participate in the following ways:
Become a volunteer (to inquire how you can volunteer, email HANDSINARMSHAITIPROJECT@lyceefrancoam.org)
Donate money to purchase supplies in the Dominican Republic or airline tickets for volunteers
Contact churches and agencies for donations or volunteers (especially those already in Haiti)
Contact airline companies to donate airline tickets for volunteers
Donate items specifically needed (the list is in progress, to be posted on LFA website)
Please feel free to share this email with those you know who want to help.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jacquelyne Hoy, Principal
Lycée Franco-Américain International School

Dear Parents and friends:
As we woke up to the devastating news about Haiti, this has directly impacted the staff, parents and students of Lycée Franco Américain International School in many ways. LFA expresses its deepest sympathy to our staff and parents who have families and friends in Haiti affected by this catastrophic earthquake. Currently, several staff and parents at LFA are unable to locate their families. So far, one of our staff lost her mother to this tragedy. We will keep you informed via e-mail as we receive more information.
Several of you have called wanting to know how you can help. The school will coordinate its relief effort through Cross International to send help to the people of Haiti. You can visit their website at
www.crossinternational.org
for more information on how to help. We will post information on the different ways that you can contribute to our aid efforts on this webpage and send e-mail updates regularly.
Your thoughts, prayers and support for the people of Haiti are greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jacquelyne Hoy
